Media Compilation: Cats

Cats are quite popular, but I like them so much that I had to make a page for them anyway.

Kirara ~ Inuyasha

I don't recall Kirara doing much, but I do like her tail.

Chobi ~ She and Her Cat

It's still a little weird to me that they changed Chobi's design in the OVA. His white fur was already plenty cute.

Coo Ritter ~ Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer

Points for a cute name on this one! Coo Ritter is one of my favorites of the familiars, after Loki and Crezant.

Miyuki ~ Saturn Apartments

A space cat with a tiny little cat compression suit; what's not to love?

Ichigo and Ryou ~ Tokyo Mew Mew

Ichigo gets a full cat form of course, because it wasn't enough to just stick with the ears and tail... Anyway, I pretty much hate Ichigo as a character, and Ryou never served as more than an arbitrary love interest. I think they look pretty creepy as cats; the huge anime eyes just don't work on animals.

Shamisen ~ The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya

I liked Shamisen enough that I was even able to enjoy his silly filler chapters, which is pretty rare on my part.

Presidents Aria, Hime, and Maa ~ ARIA

I pretty much hate ARIA's cats, especially President Aria; he was easily the worst part of the series for me. I hate how he manages to stick his stupid derpy face into every scene and completely ruin the atmosphere. Maa was super obnoxious too, but I guess Hime is kind of cute. She's the only one who actually looks like a cat anyway.

Kyubey ~ Puella Magi Madoka Magica

I don't know what the closest real world comparison to Kyubey would be... maybe a ferret? But I wanted to include him, so I guess cat is close enough. I've never understood the hate on Kyubey. I love it for the evil little incubator it is.

Cerberus ~ Cardcaptor Sakura

It looks like a bear, it's named after a dog, and it's ugly either way! It's Cerberus! As with most aspects of Cardcaptor Sakura, I find Cerberus to be annoying and overrated. His actual lion form is okay I guess, but I don't like how cartoony his usual design is.

Luna ~ Sailor Moon

What is it about Magical Girl shows that makes them screw up cats so badly? Luna is yet another annoying mascot with a weird design, and her bratty attitude makes her even less bearable. I will say that I like her human form though.

Jiji ~ Kiki's Delivery Service

It makes sense that Ghibli would do a better job with its cats; Jiji's design is addmittedly kind of weird, but I do like him a lot as a character.

Catbus ~ My Neighbor Totoro

I love Catbus. Everything about its design just works so well, from the Cheshire grin to the use of his eyes as headlights. He's so whimsical with just a touch of creepiness; perfect for a Ghibli film.

Puss in Boots ~ Shrek

Puss in Boots was easily my favorite part of the Shrek franchise, though it seems his own movie was pretty forgettable. Either way, his antics got quite a few laughs out of me in Shrek 2, which I guess helped balance out some of the terrible Dreamworks toilet humor.

Pig ~ Home

Just like everything else about this movie, the cat was cute, but didn't stand out as anything special.

Oliver ~ Oliver & Company

I remember virtually nothing about this movie. Disney really needs to step up its cat game.

Duchess, O'Malley, Toulouse, Marie, Berlioz ~ The Aristocats

Apparently Marie is the one everyone likes because she has this one line about lipstick feminism. Ooookay. Doesn't change the fact that she's a stereotypical girly-girl with a pink bow on her head. Sigh.

Cheshire Cat ~ Alice in Wonderland

The Cheshire Cat is one of my favorite residents of Wonderland, and I always love seeing new adaptations of him. I'm really not a fan of the Disney one, however. He looks more like a creepy old man than a cat, and the bright purple color palette has always confused me.

Meowth, Persian, Skitty, Delcatty, Purrloin, and Liepard ~ Pokemon

Pokemon doesn't have great cats. Meowth and Persian are, well, boring, and Skitty and Delcatty are a little too cutesy for my taste. I will say that I quite like Purrloin and Liepard though.

Cat Villagers ~ Animal Crossing
